From the recording HANSEN Violin Concerto No. 1

Work on David Hansen’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in F-Minor, Op. 9 was completed on July 11, 2025, following his retirement from a career as a clinical cardiologist, scientist, and teacher at Vanderbilt University Medical College. All the instrumental sounds were programmed by Hansen at the Sound Doctor Studio, using virtual instrtuments from the Spitfire Symphony Orchestra collection and the Samplemodeling Solo Violin. The symphonic orchestral sounds used were meticulously recorded in the superb acoustics of the legendary AIR Studio’s Lyndhurst Hall. The solo violin sounds were digitally modeled by Peter Sidlaczek and Dr. Giorgio Tommasini.ABOUT THE COMPOSER: David began his studies of music at age six as a pianist. He developed an interest in music composition and started writing songs as a teenager. Later, while attending Amherst College, he studied music theory and history, and benefitted from instruction in music composition from professors Donald Wheelock, Lou Spratlan, and David Reck. He graduated summa cum laude in 1980 with majors in chemistry and music, and subsequently devoted himself to a career in medicine. During the arduous years of medical school, training in internal mediucine and cardiology, and 35 years on the faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical College, David managed to maintain his musical skills and passion for music. In his retirement, he devotes significant amounts of time to music creation.David lives in Nashville, TN with his beloved wire, Christina. Their greatest treasures are their four children -- Nathaniel, Ashley, Jennifer, and Emily, and nine Grandchildren -- Theo, Colin , Lena, Lillian, Emmett, Clara, Abigail, Miles and William.
